Webster's Dictionary offers the meaning of a Medium: “An individual held to be a channel of communication between the earthly world and the earthly world of spirits.”
Probably one of the most endearing movies of our time was 'Ghost' starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze who gave us Oda Mae Brown, "aka" Whoopi Goldberg, the lovable con acting as a Medium. The movie allowed us to open our inquisitive minds to the world of Mediums and Psychics. Oda Mae played a physical Medium whose body was taken over by Patrick after his death to let his loving wife know what dangers were lurking out there for her. Looking far beyond our acceptable level of the paranormal, there are many real physical Mediums operating among us providing help on many levels today. Some Psychics are Mediums and some Mediums are not Psychics which brings this article to another level as we view some of the methods of a real Medium today.
Physical Mediumship can come in many ways:
Trance Mediums will allow the spirit to come into their body to communicate to loved ones or the masses. In this state, the Medium does not allow the spirit to take control of their body in any way other than using the voice for communication. Trance mediums, while in their state, can take on the features of the subject they are channeling.
Channeling Mediums are really a Trance Medium usually operating in a sleep-like state in a prone position. Edgar Cayce is the most famous Channeler of his higher self and spirits who would produce world predictions and thousands of Psychic readings over his lifetime. Due to the danger of these prolonged states, Cayce's wife operated as a transcriber for his psychic readings and watched over him for his safety for the remainder of his years work. Cayce's works and copies of his complete psychic readings are still available through the Cayce Institute in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Trumpet Mediums were used heavily in the early 1800's and still used some today. Used mostly at séances, the Trumpet was made out of a metal cone or trumpet shape and could be rather fancy. They were usually made by the Psychic Medium, becoming their own trademark Trumpet. This allows the spirit's shallow voice to become much louder as it came through the cone shaped Trumpet. The energy in the room would have the Trumpet float above the table giving the message to whoever it is intended for. The voice heard through the Trumpet comes from the ectoplasm, a sticky substance formed from the body's cells to help form an image of a spirit's body part or object. In this case, it is the throat vocal cords of the spirit.
Apports can be any material objects also created by ectoplasm in any form. Maybe a piece of jewelry can be produced by a spirit from far away and sent anywhere in the world during a s'eance for one individual or just to prove a point. Not uncommon even into today's world that can a psychic can make an object appear, possibly a book with a message for someone in their presence. A spirit passes and the loved one has lost something and has been looking for it for years and the spirit brings it to the loved one. " Pennies From Heaven" can appear for a loved one on a regular basis just to let them know their loves ones are still around and thinking about them. Usually the amount of money is small in denominations, as the spirit world is not there to load you up with riches but to demonstrate just a token of their presence. Apports can be seen as a message, like bird feathers in your path when out walking, just when you need confirmation.
Mental Medium is Telepathy and not used by any of the body's five senses. Being able to communicate to another with the shear willpower of the mind to send a message is very common, as they send the message, the receiver is able to feel or think about that person at that time. Telepathy, also called Clairvoyant, can pick up one's emotions, ideas and thoughts. This is where many lawsuits have been filed across oceans over a book or movie script or invention that was thought to be stolen from them by someone and only find out it was not possible for it to happen, as there has been no contact between the two parties. This too, can have a lot to do with the mannerisms of the world today, in not paying attention to our negative thoughts and allowing them to be sent out to the universe and collected by someone who is not healthy enough to use them in a positive way.
Clairvoyant is another form of Mediumship, as it means sight. A Clairvoyant has the ability to see spirits and their surroundings on the other side. Clairvoyance is the ultimate for communicating with the dead and being of assistance in helping them crossover in their passing. As a Medium, one is able to see pictures and situations that are transferred to the person wanting answers in psychic readings.
Remote Viewing is also a form of Clairvoyance that has been used for many years during the Cold War and just recently by government projects looking for distant locations and operations in war times. This is a highly trained group that had some good success with the program.
