Turning to Mercury the Messenger, all manner of communications, verbal, written, non-verbal, and physical are impacted by this fast moving cosmic traveler. When there are positive energies cause by Mercury’s position relative to the other planets at a given point in time, words flow easier, connections seem to happen with little or no planning, and even during those intimate moments when speaking would get in the way, expressing what you are feeling comes across loud and clear. On the flip side, when negative energies occur, the chance of being misunderstood, of messages being delayed or lost altogether, and a general sense of confusion could make a night out on the town seem like an eternity.
The impact of Mercury retrogrades has been widely discussed across the globe especially when it comes to dating. The chaos brought about by the communication disruptions that occur during this aspect are the subject of countless articles including several that I’ve written. Needless to say, dating and romantic endeavors of all sorts are particularly impacted during these times. Break-ups and arguments due to missed, mixed, or misunderstood messages (on any level) increase dramatically. Since they can’t be avoided, knowing when these astro-events occur can, at the very least, allow you to be aware that this is definitely a fragile time and caution should be taken accordingly.

Of all the celestial events that we witness in the heavens, perhaps none are as profound in terms of their effect on the human psyche and spirit as an eclipse. Whether it is the Earth’s shadow cast upon the Moon (lunar eclipse) or Luna moving between Sun and Earth (solar eclipse), this cosmic shadow dance has long been recognized as a time of portents and power.
Now, in an already tumultuous month, two of these heavenly minuets will occur: the solar eclipse of Nov. 13 and, a fortnight later, a lunar eclipse on Nov. 28.
Solar eclipses were sources of legends wonder and fear to ancient cultures across the globe. Chinese legends hold that a dragon is devouring the sun and it is the duty of the people to scare the dragon off with drums and shooting arrows towards the darkness. The Vikings felt that a solar eclipse would one day foretell the start of the final battle of Ragnarok ending the world of gods and men while the Native American Choctaw tribe believed that a black squirrel, a symbol of mischief, would try and eat the sun at intervals and that the people would have to chase him away in order to enjoy the warmth and light from above.
Lunar eclipse legends are just as diverse. Ancient Buddhists felt that during a lunar eclipse all karmic actions are multiplied a thousand times. The Serrano Indians of California felt that an eclipse was the result of the spirits of the dead trying to eat the Moon. Shamans were called in to dance to appease the restless departed while the rest of the tribe fasted in order to starve them away and restore the beacon of the night. The Japanese covered wells to keep poison from dropping into them from the darkened sky.
Beyond the legends and myths, astrologers have looked carefully at eclipses as tools for forecasting upcoming events. The solar eclipse of Nov. 13 occurs in the sign of Scorpio. Traditional astrology notes that the sign of the Scorpion brings about death, rebirth and an examination of attitudes and beliefs.
Ancients such as Ptolemy, the father of astrology, felt that a solar eclipse in this sign (which was traditionally ruled by Mars) could lead to mass conflict and untrustworthy or betrayed leaders. Also events involving the seas (and surrounding areas) could make a potent impact. Given that this particular solar eclipse also occurs during the last Mercury retrograde of the year and with Neptune, the Sea King, gong direct, this could mark the start of a dramatic shift in events with unanticipated conflicts and political change a focal point.
The lunar eclipse of Nov. 28, though more subtle in impact, is no less important. Occurring in the sign of the Twins, Gemini, the energies here will impact the financial markets as the line between public and private power becomes blurred. These effects will be particularly enhanced in those countries governed by Gemini which includes the United States. Storms, meteorological and political, are also likely to occur.
Yet, for all the mystery and energies that swirl around this sky-dance, I prefer an old legend that holds that if a couple kisses during a lunar eclipse is still full that their love will keep them together for all time. The power of love can illuminate all darkness whether solar or lunar with the light shared by two hearts. With the changes that are approaching, this illumination becomes more important than ever.

During presidential election years, psychics and astrologers are often called on to make forecasts as to winners and losers. Just as political analysts and pollsters look at trends and demographics as a basis for their opinions, those who practice the predictive arts also must take into consideration cycles and relationships on various levels to form their results. For astrologers, this involves looking at the birth charts of the candidates and seeing how current planetary positions interrelate with their natal locations. Additionally, astrological events such as retrogrades must also be considered.
At the outset, it must be noted that the election is occurring just as the final Mercury Retrograde of the year begins on November 6th. Two days earlier, on November 4th, Daylight Savings time ends and, four days after the election, Neptune ends its long term in retrograde and goes direct. Just nine days post election, there is a total Solar Eclipse and a New Moon. The various cosmic energies of these important events are all in play as the polls open and serve as a dynamic astral backdrop for the selection of the President and Congress.
The Tenth House of the Horoscope is traditionally the House which deals with primary career goals, government and politics. With this in mind, the charts of both Romney and Obama were examined to see the impact of planetary movement on each of their Tenth Houses on November 6th, 2012 election.
For Romney, there is only one transit in his Tenth House; Neptune, the Sea King, still moving backward resides there. The impact of this is losing sight of career goals or being phased out are possible although service-related careers may prosper. Ambition and drive could be lacking. This would seem to indicate a less than positive outcome at the polls.
Parenthetically, it should also be noted that Neptune, the Sea King, governs among other things, the seas. The occurrences of hurricanes at both the Republican Convention and Hurricane Sandy, just days before the election, are stark reminders of the impact of the Neptune, The Ocean Ruler.
For Obama, his Tenth House contains two transits, Mercury Retrograde (which will be starting its retrograde) and Mars. The Messenger’s arrival in the Tenth House turns the mind to career and professional interests. It’s a good time to communicate with superiors and learn new job skills. The Mars impact stimulates ambition and career objectives. If ego energies are unrestrained, conflicts could arise with authorities or superiors. Work for recognition. These relationships would certainly seem to point to a successful reelection effort.
Romney’s Sixth House, the House of work (not career) and service (which does include politicians) has some important hints as well. Saturn, the first of two transits here, points out that work situations become more demanding. Be willing to serve and sacrifice now for opportunities in a few years. The Sun also highlights that this is a period of responsibility and service to others. Physical health will also be emphasized, and more positive regimes promote well-being.
Obama has only one transit in the Sixth House, the Moon. Luna’s impact shows that emotions may be depressed by the self-sacrificing nature of this placement. Avoid being critical or overly concerned with health. Regardless of who is in the White House, the self-sacrificing nature of the job of President is certainly an absolute.
The last comparison that is a good astrological barometer is the transits in the Eleventh House for both men. The Eleventh House is known as the House of Hopes and Dreams; without a doubt winning the Presidential Election is the dream of both Obama and Romney. It is also the House of bizarre occurrences and the unexpected.
Romney’s Eleventh House has a potent transit with Uranus. Friends, hopes and expectations are subject to sudden and revolutionary change. Peer pressure chafes. Be willing to alter plans and stay flexible. Obama, too, has a single but power interaction-this time with Pluto. Friendships and group activities will have a profoundly transforming effect. Hopes, wishes and goals undergo transitions. Avoid manipulators.
Based on the above at this juncture, Obama is narrowly favored astrologically. This seems to be supported by a powerful conjunction of the Moon and Sun. A time of monthly renewal when emotional and ego energies blend effectively. Associations are favored. It will not be without controversy however. Saturn in the Ninth House points to legal problems that may arise. Educational or travel plans will require hard work. Take care of unfinished business.
Regardless of the ultimate results of this election, the energies which have coalesced at this time will have an impact far beyond the 2012 elections on November 6th. Whether you follow the stars, the pundits, or your own internal voice, express your feelings and vote.

Even as Mercury the Messenger, Saturn the Great Leveler and Mars the God of War right their paths once again on April 4th (Mercury), June 25th (Saturn) and April 13th (Mars), several new and equally significant astrological events come into play. On March 11th, Daylight Savings begins as a precursor to the Vernal Equinox on March 19th. With the influence of the Mercury retrograde just beginning at that time, the chronological shift and the start of a new season could add to the confusion surrounding the globe. An unexpected storm could add to the other tensions and serve as a harsh reminder of the old saying:
“March comes in like a lion…”
Of greater concern is that the Dark Lord, Pluto, goes into reverse on April 10th. Still in Capricorn, the Dark Lord’s energies are bent on transformation through the destruction of the old and outmoded. In retrograde, we must face the shadow side of things; a scandal, a realization that plans for the future were built on sand not rock, secrets which, in coming forth, will dramatically impact a major institution. Geologically speaking, the Earth, too, may let loose a ‘secret’ in the form of a volcano or major quake, especially during the early part of this retrograde from April through the end of June.
There is one particular date which bears close attention: June 4. On that day, three powerful events impose their energies on the planetary pallet which could leave a profound mark across the globe. First, a total Lunar Eclipse occurs during the Full Moon. Second, Venus squares Mars and, finally, Neptune, the Sea King, goes retrograde.
In a previous article, I have discussed the potency of the Neptune retrograde:
Neptune, astrologically speaking, has long been associated with mysticism, idealism and compassion. When affected by negative influences and aspects with other planets, these characteristics can change into delusion and deception as well as a lack of focus and confusion. During a Neptune retrograde, there is a heightened sensitivity to things that go wrong and logic is often replaced with dreams and delusions. These feelings often collide with the stark reality of the real world, i.e., ‘pie in the sky’ meets pie in the face.
Combined with Luna’s energy during an eclipse, the Neptune’s wrath may well make itself known in the form of a hurricane or other ocean-based catastrophe. Since Neptune also rules oil and natural gas, the possibility of a gas crisis (either from a natural or political event) is increased as well. This could well be the start of a long, hot summer-in many ways.
The square of Venus and Mars denotes a lot of emotional issues, particularly those involving the sexes. While more personal in nature, this stress could indirectly contribute to the overall sense of frustration, jealousy and resentment that could play a bigger role in political matters which are already front and center.
Finally there is one last event that must be acknowledged: The solar eclipse during the new moon on May 20. Eclipses have long been recognized as potent sources of energy. This particular eclipse occurs at the beginning of the sign of Gemini. Many ancient astrologers, such as Raphael, noted that an eclipse during an air sign, such as Gemini, was often a portent of ‘stormy winds hurtful to mankind’. In context, this could mean the political/financial storms brewing around the globe as well as actual meteorological events.
Raphael also noted that a solar eclipse during the first part of Gemini could denote ‘dissension and strife among clergy and religious denominations’. Viewed in today’s world setting, the warning here is all too obvious.
Shakespeare in Richard III wrote about the ‘winter of our discontent’. Will the spring of 2012 be even more tumultuous? Interesting times are ahead.
Go Well – Lou

As a long time practicing astrologer and psychic I am routinely asked, by believers and skeptics, the same question: How accurate are these predictive arts using astrology? While I never claim that any method of metaphysical forecasting is flawless, I do point out that history has countless examples of practitioners of the mystic sciences being able ’see’ events in the future and to forecast trends of destiny.
Several times during the year, I will look back on prognostications that I have made and measure them against current events to examine my own accuracy. This is my way of reminding myself that, regardless of skills and gifts that I and other psychics and practitioners may possess, the Universe always has the first move. Even so, measuring what I have seen against what has occurred makes for an interesting tally on my astrological scorecard.
In December 2011, I released my 2012 Predictions on both Kindle and Nook websites and on January 22nd, revised and updated this collection and entitled it 2012 Stars and Stones. Both editions contained this observation:
“ (Pluto) The Dark Lord reverses course on April 10th still in the sign of the Sea Goat. The intensity of this position, coupled with the force of the retrograde is going to make the spring very interesting, to say the least. Pluto Retrograde highlights weakness while Capricorn deals with power and hierarchies. Expect more revelations about how “hollow” the current system is that could cause a major crisis involving a government official sometime between April 10th and the 19th.”
On Saturday, April 14, 2012, the scandal involving the Secret Service hiring prostitutes in Columbia ahead of a major conference to by attended by the President. The story has grown and now DEA agents are also being investigated on similar charges as well as member of the military who were part of the advance contingent.
Also in 2012 Stars and Stones was the following excerpt from the rune casting portion of the book:
“1st Six Months Bridge – Sowelo – This is the rune of wholeness and clarity and is both appropriate and timely as it also denotes the end of winter and the start of the warmth of the year. During these first six months, we may get a chance to see “the funny old man behind the curtain” (figuratively and, possibly, literally) as some scandals/revelations are going to illuminate exactly how the financial crisis occurred on a global scale and who or what stands to profit by keeping things unsettled. Failures in governments will also come to light-perhaps with some shocking results.”
The ongoing failure of Greece to even form a government certainly is the most glaring aspect of this prediction but, by no means, the only one:
February 17, 2012 – German President Christian Wulff resigns as the result of a financial scandal where he was accepting ‘favors’ to influence policy.
February 21, 2012 – A top executive at Olympus commits suicide in the midst of a major accounting scandal and investigation at the company.
March 14, 2012 – An op-ed article by Greg Smith, a former executive at Goldman Sachs, explains in detail how clients’ interests are routinely ignored in the name of making a profit for the firm.
While the revelation on May 11, 2012, that J.P. Morgan Chase suffered a minimum of a $2 Billion dollar loss through risky investment activities, not unlike those which crashed the world economy in 2008 is most certainly a part of this list. It is also important that this singular event (whose total impact may not yet be felt) was also referenced in a subsequent article The Financial Future that I wrote on April 30th. Referencing the impact of the Pluto retrograde in Capricorn that began on April 10th:
“In the sign of Capricorn, the structural aspects of our world such as our financial and banking systems will receive the full brunt of the Dark Lord’s focus. Things hidden will be brought to light; given that Pluto governs big business, crime and the underworld and also the Great Depression… As Pluto’s 160 day rearward dance progresses, and some of these hidden truths become revealed, karmic balance is going to make hit those who have taken advantage of the system the hardest; regrettably since they are also in control, the trickle-down to the rest of us will also be significant.”
The political arena also appears to have made it to my astrological radar. On January 16th in my article entitled: Mercury Retrograde Affects 2012 Elections this observation was made:
“Clearly, what comes out of Super Tuesday may have a far different slant than anyone may have believed going in. With the Messenger staying reversed until April 4th, the communications chaos will not lessen even as the ‘winners’ (who ultimately may not be) and the ‘losers’ (who may not be done) try to spin their way out of Mercury’s Web.”
The war of words between Romney, Gingrich, Santorum and the rest certainly continued unabated for a significant period of time beyond Super Tuesday with echoes still reverberating through present day. For one candidate, however, my words of Feb 22nd in the article Knock Knock certainly projected his future course:
“The retrograde energies of Mercury, Mars and Saturn will be magnified and reinforced by each other from March 12th through April 4th On the political front, I believe that at least one prominent figure is going to learn his (or her) limitations in a rather dramatic fashion that will cause them to recalculate the future that they had planned for themselves.”
Gingrich ended his campaign for the nomination roughly two weeks later.
This also extends to politics beyond our borders as mentioned in my article Dark Side of the Moon written on May 2nd:
“Since the holiday is a celebration of the defeat of the French on May 5th, 1862 by Mexican forces, it would not be surprising if France and or Mexico again were illuminated by this ‘Super Moon’ as part of the sesquicentennial anniversary. Given that the second round run-off of the Presidential Election is also scheduled for May 5th and 6th, there could be a literal turning of the tides that could shape not only the political but financial landscape of the Eurozone as well.”
As is well known, Francois Hollande, a socialist, won the French presidency and, in doing so, has completed shaken the political landscape of Europe leaving many to wonder whether the Euro Union will survive much longer.
The astrological impact on Earth itself was something that I felt strongly about and expressed in the previously mentioned February 22nd Knock Knock article:
“Geologically speaking, the Earth, too, may let loose a “secret” in the form of a volcano or major earthquake especially during he early part of this retro-from April through the end of June.”
And on May 2nd in Dark Side of the Moon:
“The Moon’s impact on weather and the oceans should not be discounted either. With Neptune – the Sea King – also going retrograde during this eclipse, seismic, meteorological or volcanic activity may come within that week”
The earthquakes in Italy on May 20th, the day of the eclipse, has shocked seismologists around the world by how shallow it was and that it occurred in a low risk area. Damage to some of the ancient treasures of Italy is still being assessed but officials in the region feel that it could be “significant”. And just today, May 22nd, Bulgaria has been impacted by a 5.2 tremor with damages yet to be assessed.
Yet these two events were not the only ones which have occurred between April and June. Here is a short list of some of the other events:
April 11-An 8.6 earthquake with an 8.2 after shock near Sumatra
May 14- a 6.2 earthquake near the Bolivian Peru border
May 19-6.1 earthquake off of northern Chile
Totally dwarfed in the news cycle by the Italian quakes, the 6.4 occurrence off of Honshu, Japan seems almost like an afterthought.
So, do astrologers and psychics truly have a window on the future? The answer to this question will continue to be debated with no resolution. Believers believe and doubters doubt. At the end of the day, all I can do is look at my “scorecard” and continue to provide counsel and guidance where I can.
Go Well.

Those of us “of a certain age” remember knock-knock jokes as a staple of childhood humor. For you readers who learned humor from Beavis, Butthead, Bart Simpson, SpongeBob and other comedic symbols of the later 20th Century onward a “knock-knock” joke went something like this:
Knock-Knock
Who’s There?
Ima
Ima Who?
Ima Psychic.
Of course, after the “Who’s There?” response, you could reply with just about anything (and usually did) that could be the first part of a phrase, name, etc. Today, however, I feel that there is a different kind of “knock-knock” joke just around the corner astrologically speaking and the joke may just be on us.
Many of us have felt the sense of something approaching on the horizon without being able to specifically put our psychic fingers on the pulse, so to speak. Astrologers, psychics, and other esoteric practitioners, are focusing their skills to try and clarify what this sense is revealing. In looking skyward, I find my attention being drawn to the next four months of the year as being particularly significant.
The influence of planetary retrogrades is going to be magnified in ways we haven’t seen for a while. Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Neptune all move in reverse during this four-month period. Mars, the God of War, began this rearward waltz on January 23. When moving in reverse, accidents, arguments, and anger all flare from impulsive actions and ill-timed decisions. With aggression and violence (emotional and physical) highlighted, what is needed (but often lacking) is a rethinking on how to move forward. The red planet resumes its forward motion on April 13.
Saturn retrograde, (Saturn also known as he Great Leveler), joins the dance on February 7 and stays that way until the end of June. Saturn Retrograde brings us face to face with our limitations, both individually and as a society, reminding us what we can and can’t do in the world. These are lessons that will be learned one way or another. Progress will be slowed and we find ourselves wanting to say “YES” to courses of action that really require a “NO”.
Compounding the difficulties, Mercury, The Messenger, joins his planetary brethren moving backwards on March 12th and staying in that motion until April 4. I have written at length about the travails of a Mercury Retro previously and this one could be nasty to say the least. Communication snafus on all levels (personal, political, international, financial) will spark a lot of emotional flames and add to the Martian conflagration.
The energies of Mercury retrograde, Mars retrograde and Saturn retrograde will be magnified and reinforced by each other from March 12 through April 4. I believe we can expect a possible international conflict as the result of a missed message, impulsive action driven by a desire to enforce our will on a situation that, in truth, cannot be forced or allowing a deep-seeded anger to explode. While the financial crises worldwide deepening could be a possibility, it is an armed conflict that seems the most probable during this time.
On the political front, I believe that at least one prominent figure is going to learn his (or her) limitations in a rather dramatic fashion that will cause them to recalculate the future that they had planned for themselves. This could also be tied in with the world financial situation which, as a result of the conflict mentioned above, is going to be on extremely shaky ground.

Mars, the God of War, is also active during these ‘lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer’. Much like the Messenger, Mars also has the quincunx aspect in play with Neptune and Chiron. Both the Sea King, Neptune, and the Wounded Healer, Chiron, are retrograde which further bring out their negative features. Disillusionment, frustration and anger at things which seem beyond control will all be heightened. Wrongs (real and imagined) are going to fester on the world stage which could lead to random acts of violence that could explode into a much larger political/economic conflict. This is particularly true during the last two weeks of the month.
The Mars, God of War, squares off literally with the Dark Lord, Pluto on July 17th. The visceral drive to eliminate that which is viewed as unacceptable or obsolete by force could lead to a reckless course of military action during that week. A day later, on July 18th, Mars opposes (again literally) the force of Uranus. The urge to through caution to the winds combined with the desire to revolt from real or perceived restrictions enhance the chance that a traditional power or authority is going to collapse without any clear alternative to replace it.
Personal relationships, too, are going to find themselves in the heat of the summer sun during July. Again, the difficult quincunx aspect between Venus and the Dark Lord on July 3rd, marks upheavals in matters of the heart and may leave many people feeling like they have boarded an emotional roller coaster of the e-ticket variety.
Chiron joins the party in a celestial cosmic ‘square dance with the Goddess of Love on July 7th sowing mistrust and doubt which cannot be conquered by and emotionally forcing matters. With all the other astral energies swirling during the month, to say that love is a battlefield could be an understatement.
One of the many features that makes this period so intense is the fact that there are five significant retrogrades occurring at the same time: Neptune, Mercury, Chiron, Pluto and Uranus. All will be moving in reverse and their combined retro-activity opens the door for upheaval and uncertainty. The fabric of what the world believes is ‘truth’ is going to be torn in ways that are both immediate and forceful. While the focus of 2012 was on the Mayan Prophecy of December 21st, far more powerful forces will interplay during the period from July 3rd though the 26th.
In a cosmic sense we all are being put on notice that there are some karmic debts coming due and the Universe will insure that they are paid both on a global and personal level. This could well be part of what the ancients saw as they peered into the night sky to cast the course of fate for those who follow. Perhaps seeking astral advice from those trained in the predictive arts may help find a course to follow even as the paths themselves are being reshaped.

July 4th Fireworks An Astrological Spectacular
Dark Side of the Moon Shadow Side of the Future
Lou Raedwulfe is also the author of 2012 Stars and Stones. See all of his books at Amazon.com
With the 4th of July just around the corner, preparations for the annual showing of aerial patriotism in the form of fireworks displays both public and private. This July, however, there is one pyrotechnics show whose effects will be more dynamic and will last far beyond the last boom in the night sky and the final fading of the colored lights and images launched by the hands of humankind. I am referring, of course, to the astrological “fireworks” that will occur during the entire month of July.
To begin with, the period from July 3rd through July 26th is marked by important aspects almost continuously mostly involving Mercury, Venus and Mars. Of particularly interest are the interactions of the Messenger. First and foremost, the second Mercury Retrograde of the year occurs on July 14th. As I have discussed in other articles, Mercury Retrogrades can, under the best of astrological conditions, cause havoc in human affairs. The impact of The Messenger’s rearward waltz this time is magnified by Uranus also going retrograde the day before on July 13th.
Uranus is the planet of deviation, revolution, rebellion and change from existing norms. This change often comes in unconventional and unexpected ways. The Uranus retrograde lasts for roughly 150 days a year and during that time the instability it brings can be felt on personal and international levels. Its reputation as “The Great Awakener” is well-founded. Uranus influences earthquakes, technology and anarchy. In retrograde, disruptive events on the personal level (break-ups as opposed to make-ups) are likely. In world events, expected the unexpected and the fall of existing power structures either through internal collapse or external force.
Combined with the potency of the Messenger also in retrograde, July could see a major geopolitical crisis that could result in the unprecedented alteration of global power. Disrupted or distorted communications will only add fuel to the revolutionary fire. Add to this, the possibility of a major seismic event during the third week of the month and you have the ingredients for a summer of chaos.
The Messenger also dances with Pluto, the Dark Lord, during July. Still retrograde and in Capricorn, the Dark Lord’s continued mission of transformation through destruction of the old and obsolete (institutions, political structures, economies) will also be fuelled by his planetary associates. Twice during this period on July 3rd and the 26th,, Mercury and Pluto enter into that most curious of aspects, the Quincunx (or Inconjunct as it is also called).
Quincunxes, which are aspects formed when planets are 150 degrees apart (plus or minus 2 degrees) can be summed up with the words: challenging and diverting. This aspect is difficult because the “cause and effect” between one event and a related outcome cannot be identified yet. In a true cosmic sense, they are intrinsically connected.
When Mercury and Pluto are bound in a quincunx, compulsiveness, whether on an individual or societal level, can lead to things getting really out of control. Combined with the retrogrades of both planets which exist during July, we can expect a dynamic and rash set of actions, particularly in the financial and global realms, to really cause chaos during the last two weeks of the month. A dramatic and/or drastic political event could also result in a “house of cards” ending up in a cosmic version of “52 card pickup” as well.

July 4th Promises Cosmic Crispies
In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar there is a scene that immortalizes one of the most famous examples of psychic predictions in history:
Caesar: Who is it in the press that calls on me?
Soothsayer: Beware the Ides of March.
As is well known, Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44 BCE. Since that event, which arguably altered the course of history, March 15 has held a prominent focal point for psychics and students of the predictive arts such as those on Psychic Cosmos.com. With all of the portents and concerns surrounding the entire year of 2012, it is fitting that we look at what the Ides may hold in store for us this year.
Before Caesar’s demise, the Ides of March was actually a festival day dedicated to Mars, the God of War and celebrated with military parades. It also marked the first full moon of the New Year (under the old Roman calendar) and the celebration of the goddess, Anna Perenna. Anna Perenna was the sister of the queen of Carthage who was carried off and turned into a water nymph. Marked with the kind of festivities we would recognize today as similar to Mardi Gras and Carnivale, the Ides of March could almost be viewed as a kind of ancient ‘spring break’.
Clearly, the soothsayer who warned Caesar of the fate awaiting him was a messenger whose words should have been heeded. Just as important today is our own astrological Messenger, Mercury, who goes retrograde just a scant three days before the Ides on March 11-12. The Messenger’s rearward influence seems to already be playing out across the globe as jumbled communications and meanings are the stuff of each day’s headlines.
The Messenger’s impact should not be minimized. Given that this retrograde is also occurring in Aries, the fiery energy will add to the upheaval and could impact relationships, both personal and on a global scale, as well as, communications. This retro is going to be a challenge to say the least.
Taking a close look at the path of Mars, there is an eerie relationship between where the God of War rested on that day in 44 BCE and where he will be found on March 15, 2012. In Caesar’s day, the God of War traversed the 12th House, the house of hidden enemies and daily routines. In 2012, however, Mars is in the 6th house, the house of daily chores and work, almost exactly in opposition to its position in 44BCE.
This transit marks increased aggression marked by the desire to dominate others. Events involving military forces will be harsh and violent. This is a time of contests where egos fuel elements of meanness and can evolve into hatred. For us, the political season is about to get a whole lot uglier which will spill over into other facets, such as finances.
As weather is also governed by the sixth house, it will not be surprising if a profound event occurs during that week. Combined with the Messenger’s effect, this could result a major reshuffling of plans and schedules whose long term impact may not be apparent until early summer.
Given that the Ides was originally a day dedicated to Mars, there is another important feature that must be considered: the God of War, like the Messenger, is marching rearward on March 15. Accidents, arguments and conflicts resulting from impulsive actions or anger are more likely. The international front could see increased tension in the likely hotspots and, perhaps, in a location which has only been simmering quietly for the last little while. Any new projects are likely to stall which only adds to the cycle of frustration and stress. Financial issues could boil over into public displays.
Like Caesar, we confront a Messenger whose communication blocks warn us of our own crises on the Ides. With his retro motion, joining the God of War, it would be wise to heed the warning and move with caution in the days ahead.

2012 The Year Ahead According to the Runes
With the Sign of the Fish on the horizon, those who claim Pisces as their natal sign look forward to see what their “home” month may hold for them. As might be expected, Pisces is right at home in its element of water. Being the mutable one of the water group, native Pisceans are both adaptable and yet given to quick changes of emotion. This flexibility should not, however, be mistaken for instability. Pisces has the passive polarity that certainly makes children of this sign a prime example of the saying: “Still waters run deep”.
Even beyond the effect that planetary aspects have during a given astrological month on the world in general, those born to that particular sign will be more profoundly impacted than others. Similarly, planets that are transiting through that sign will assert their influence to a greater degree on those whose birth occurred there, as well. Using one’s birth chart with an eye to what occurs above can provide guidance on events below.
When the month of Pisces begins on February 18, two existing cosmic influences will already make their presence known. Neptune, the planetary ruler of Pisces, has been in the Sign of the Pisces since February 12, 2012 and will remain there until 2025. Additionally, Pisces, the Sea King, will be joined for the first eight years of this astral journey by Chiron, (also known as asteroid 2060 and Comet 95P/Chiron) the Wounded Healer. Discovered in 1977, modern day astrologers have noted that Chiron’s interaction with the planets is important in casting horoscopes and so it is included more often as part of astral forecasts.
Neptune in its home base of Pisces could lead to a true spiritual awakening or mass delusion. When it last visited Pisces, in 1848, the spiritualist movement had just begun and the start of the gold rush in California brought the mass hysteria of “gold fever” to much of the world. Combined with Chiron’s energies, Pisceans may find themselves having to battle internally between the desire to escape the seemingly increasing chaos around us with the awareness of what has gone wrong and needs repair. This is the backdrop of Pisces 2013.
A scant five days into your natal month, the first Mercury retrograde of the year arrives on February 23. Two days later, February 25, Mercury the Messenger, Venus and Mars all join Neptune and Chiron in Pisces as well. With communications thrown into the typical retrograde chaos, tempers will flare up and emotional issues will blur rational thought and discourse. Natives of the sign will have to be careful not to get caught up in deception; either being the instigator or the victim.
All of this planetary energy could well leave Pisces people feeling almost helpless to act against what may be perceived as the tides of fate. Adding to the sense that destiny is in charge, this month’s full moon also arrives on February 25. Known as the Wolf Moon or Storm Moon, the lunar energies blend with the celestial quintet that has arrived in Pisces to make a potent mixture. Children of Pisces would be well advised to stay close to home base as the psychical high tides of Luna could flood an already intense period.
The intense planetary interplay continues right through February and into the first week of March. Mercury conjuncts Mars on February 26 and Venus on March 6 (both in Pisces) while Venus conjuncts Neptune of February 28 and Chiron on March 9 (also Pisces). For native Pisceans, the combination of the conjunctions and the Mercury retrograde will make it a challenge to tell fact from fantasy and reality from illusion. Take care with your hearts and your wallets since what you see (or think you see) may not be what you get.
We all spring ahead to Daylight savings time on March 10. Given the celestial energies abounding, even this seasonal chronological adjustment will impact natives of the Sign of the Fish to a greater degree than others. Fortunately, the Mercury retrograde ends on March 17 and three days later, March 20, the Vernal Equinox returns to warm body and soul and heralds the arrival of the Taurus the Ram, Aries.
It is said that Pisces is the culmination of all the signs of the zodiac. In the natal month in 2013, it seems that the Sign of the Fishes is also the repository for most of the planets, as well. Those born under this sign will find this an eventful month. Rather than fight the tides, let them carry you onward towards the path of Fate.
Pisces starts 2/18. Mercury Retrograde 2/23, ends 3/17 Full Moon 2/25, Daylight Savings 3/10 Neptune in Pisces; Neptune and Chiron both in Pisces; Venus , Mercury and Mars all in Pisces 2/25.
