Although the Mayan Long Count Calendar may have ended on December 21, the amount of unfinished business from the old cycle that is carrying over to 2013 makes understanding what may lie ahead, astrologically speaking, in the next twelve months even more important that usual. Financial, social and political cans can only be kicked so far down the proverbial road before a conclusion, of one form or another, results. With this in mind, what follows is a brief overview of the cosmic energies that will be impacting us all in the months ahead.
The first quarter of the year seems to feature a lot of smoke and mirrors and precious little substance. Lots of posturing, politically and financially, on a global scale with no real sense of what direction to move in. This uncertainty will be compounded by Saturn, the Great Leveler, going in reverse on February 18, followed five days later by the first Mercury retrograde of the year.
Expect some revelations/whistle blowing during this time that could upset some highly placed individuals. The skewing of communications combined with the limitations of options for positive action of any sort set the stage for an event of karmic importance. Although March is supposed to “come in like a lion and go out like a lamb” the period from March 22-31 promises to be anything but gentle and serene. Expect a significant event during that time whose repercussions could have a world-wide impact. The realism of our situation may be brought home in a historically dramatic fashion.
The second and third quarters of the year promise to be the most dynamic, dramatic and, yes, traumatic of the entire twelve month cycle. Beginning with Pluto’s return to a retrograde motion on April 12, will again mark a period of unrest, possibly violent in nature, in various locales around the globe. Greece, Spain and the Middle East are prime candidates however, unlikely locales such as Southeast Asia or even in the southern United States could also be featured.
In addition, during a thirty day period from April 25 – May 25, there will be three eclipses; a partial Lunar eclipse (April 25), a Solar eclipse (May 9) and Lunar Eclipse (May24-25). The power of Eclipses, both Lunar and Solar, has been known to humankind for eons. With the eclipse effect during this time, expecting the unexpected should be the watchword for everyone.
Weather related events (and yes, that could mean an unexpected hurricane or two) are likely, especially after June 7 when Neptune goes retrograde. As the planet whose predominant influence is the oceans, Neptune’s impact cannot be overstated. For example, the Gulf Oil Spill of 2010 occurred during a Neptune retrograde. Neptune is also the planet of illusion and escapism. It is important not to mistake “pie in the sky” for an astrological pie in the face.

With the start of the winter season, finding a way to take that casual meeting or beginning dating relationship to the next level is on everyone’s mind (and heart). You know what you are feeling and, while the attraction seems to be mutual, you really don’t know the next step to take. On the one hand, being pushy might drive him away and yet, ‘playing hard to get’ might cause him to look elsewhere for someone who is interested in something more intense.
Fortunately, you can use the inherent power of the Moon to focus your energies and emotions so that he’ll know that you are worth the time and can truly be the one he’s been looking for. This applies to a woman who wants to attract a man. The advice here can be used by either gender in the same fashion to use Moon power to attract and connect with the person you want to become involved with.
When the Moon is full, our natural cycles, just like the tides, can ebb and flow. This is true for both men and women. While women have always known about the Moon’s power on the life cycle, men may be more reluctant to acknowledge this although their emotions are impacted just as strongly.
This is an important time for you to truly listen to the ‘goddess within’ and allow your emotional tides to become full. This applies to a woman who wants to attract a man the advice here can be used by either gender in the same fashion to use Moon power to attract and connect with the person you want to become involved with.
The Moon governs dreams, the unconscious mind, and first impressions among many other things. Most important, the Moon also governs personal magnetism. Since the effect of a lunar eclipse begins almost immediately and follows for some months after (as opposed to a solar eclipse whose effects can take longer to be felt) using that emotional energy during an eclipse is a great way to make the kind of impression that could make him dream of you, consciously and unconsciously, drawing him to you as if you were a magnet.
The easiest way to use the energy of a lunar eclipse is to make every effort to be with the person you are interested as close to the start of the eclipse as possible. If this connection can’t be in person, try to connect online or by phone. As you feel the strong, inner pull of the Moon’s energies, open your heart and allow those feelings to flow towards him. He may well find himself responding from a deeper, more spiritual place that ever before. As the Moon begins to reappear, allow the gentle ebb of the intensity that you feel to draw back. His response may well be to ‘follow the tide’ and, in doing so, draw closer to its source, namely, your heart.
Lunar eclipses are a time to face the unknown and explore the depth of our feelings and to seek out that connection with a like-minded soul. Using the energies unleashed by the eclipse, you can help explore his/her feelings, and to find that connection that drew the two of you together in the first place.
If you have your love interest’s birth date, place of birth and time of birth, as well as your own, seek out a skilled astrologer or an expert who combines psychic readings with astrology, to do a synastry chart for the two of you so you can have a ‘star map’ to guide your path as a couple as the eclipse brings your hearts together.
Of all the celestial events that we witness in the heavens, perhaps none are as profound in terms of their effect on the human psyche and spirit as an eclipse. Whether it is the Earth’s shadow cast upon the Moon (lunar eclipse) or Luna moving between Sun and Earth (solar eclipse), this cosmic shadow dance has long been recognized as a time of portents and power.
Now, in an already tumultuous month, two of these heavenly minuets will occur: the solar eclipse of Nov. 13 and, a fortnight later, a lunar eclipse on Nov. 28.
Solar eclipses were sources of legends wonder and fear to ancient cultures across the globe. Chinese legends hold that a dragon is devouring the sun and it is the duty of the people to scare the dragon off with drums and shooting arrows towards the darkness. The Vikings felt that a solar eclipse would one day foretell the start of the final battle of Ragnarok ending the world of gods and men while the Native American Choctaw tribe believed that a black squirrel, a symbol of mischief, would try and eat the sun at intervals and that the people would have to chase him away in order to enjoy the warmth and light from above.
Lunar eclipse legends are just as diverse. Ancient Buddhists felt that during a lunar eclipse all karmic actions are multiplied a thousand times. The Serrano Indians of California felt that an eclipse was the result of the spirits of the dead trying to eat the Moon. Shamans were called in to dance to appease the restless departed while the rest of the tribe fasted in order to starve them away and restore the beacon of the night. The Japanese covered wells to keep poison from dropping into them from the darkened sky.
Beyond the legends and myths, astrologers have looked carefully at eclipses as tools for forecasting upcoming events. The solar eclipse of Nov. 13 occurs in the sign of Scorpio. Traditional astrology notes that the sign of the Scorpion brings about death, rebirth and an examination of attitudes and beliefs.
Ancients such as Ptolemy, the father of astrology, felt that a solar eclipse in this sign (which was traditionally ruled by Mars) could lead to mass conflict and untrustworthy or betrayed leaders. Also events involving the seas (and surrounding areas) could make a potent impact. Given that this particular solar eclipse also occurs during the last Mercury retrograde of the year and with Neptune, the Sea King, gong direct, this could mark the start of a dramatic shift in events with unanticipated conflicts and political change a focal point.
The lunar eclipse of Nov. 28, though more subtle in impact, is no less important. Occurring in the sign of the Twins, Gemini, the energies here will impact the financial markets as the line between public and private power becomes blurred. These effects will be particularly enhanced in those countries governed by Gemini which includes the United States. Storms, meteorological and political, are also likely to occur.
Yet, for all the mystery and energies that swirl around this sky-dance, I prefer an old legend that holds that if a couple kisses during a lunar eclipse is still full that their love will keep them together for all time. The power of love can illuminate all darkness whether solar or lunar with the light shared by two hearts. With the changes that are approaching, this illumination becomes more important than ever.

Even as Mercury the Messenger, Saturn the Great Leveler and Mars the God of War right their paths once again on April 4th (Mercury), June 25th (Saturn) and April 13th (Mars), several new and equally significant astrological events come into play. On March 11th, Daylight Savings begins as a precursor to the Vernal Equinox on March 19th. With the influence of the Mercury retrograde just beginning at that time, the chronological shift and the start of a new season could add to the confusion surrounding the globe. An unexpected storm could add to the other tensions and serve as a harsh reminder of the old saying:
“March comes in like a lion…”
Of greater concern is that the Dark Lord, Pluto, goes into reverse on April 10th. Still in Capricorn, the Dark Lord’s energies are bent on transformation through the destruction of the old and outmoded. In retrograde, we must face the shadow side of things; a scandal, a realization that plans for the future were built on sand not rock, secrets which, in coming forth, will dramatically impact a major institution. Geologically speaking, the Earth, too, may let loose a ‘secret’ in the form of a volcano or major quake, especially during the early part of this retrograde from April through the end of June.
There is one particular date which bears close attention: June 4. On that day, three powerful events impose their energies on the planetary pallet which could leave a profound mark across the globe. First, a total Lunar Eclipse occurs during the Full Moon. Second, Venus squares Mars and, finally, Neptune, the Sea King, goes retrograde.
In a previous article, I have discussed the potency of the Neptune retrograde:
Neptune, astrologically speaking, has long been associated with mysticism, idealism and compassion. When affected by negative influences and aspects with other planets, these characteristics can change into delusion and deception as well as a lack of focus and confusion. During a Neptune retrograde, there is a heightened sensitivity to things that go wrong and logic is often replaced with dreams and delusions. These feelings often collide with the stark reality of the real world, i.e., ‘pie in the sky’ meets pie in the face.
Combined with Luna’s energy during an eclipse, the Neptune’s wrath may well make itself known in the form of a hurricane or other ocean-based catastrophe. Since Neptune also rules oil and natural gas, the possibility of a gas crisis (either from a natural or political event) is increased as well. This could well be the start of a long, hot summer-in many ways.
The square of Venus and Mars denotes a lot of emotional issues, particularly those involving the sexes. While more personal in nature, this stress could indirectly contribute to the overall sense of frustration, jealousy and resentment that could play a bigger role in political matters which are already front and center.
Finally there is one last event that must be acknowledged: The solar eclipse during the new moon on May 20. Eclipses have long been recognized as potent sources of energy. This particular eclipse occurs at the beginning of the sign of Gemini. Many ancient astrologers, such as Raphael, noted that an eclipse during an air sign, such as Gemini, was often a portent of ‘stormy winds hurtful to mankind’. In context, this could mean the political/financial storms brewing around the globe as well as actual meteorological events.
Raphael also noted that a solar eclipse during the first part of Gemini could denote ‘dissension and strife among clergy and religious denominations’. Viewed in today’s world setting, the warning here is all too obvious.
Shakespeare in Richard III wrote about the ‘winter of our discontent’. Will the spring of 2012 be even more tumultuous? Interesting times are ahead.
Go Well – Lou

I have written a number of articles about the gathering celestial storm that will occur on and around the week of June 4th. Perhaps the centerpiece of all of these astrological events is the total lunar eclipse of the full moon on June 4th. To astrologers, such as those found on this site, the impact of Luna’s energies to all of us here on Earth is well known. So, too, is the importance of both solar and lunar eclipses on the affairs of us earthbound mortals.
Eclipses, both solar and lunar, have fostered myth and legend for centuries. While their effect is always profound, the blend of other astrological events in this fortnight period between the solar eclipse of May 20th and the lunar eclipse of June 4th, make these two ‘bookend’ occurrences even more significant.
With the Venus retrograde which started and May 15th joined by Neptune, the Sea King, also going rearward on June 4th, and then the Goddess of Love making a very rate transit across the Sun just one day after the full Lunar eclipse, the potency of the Moon’s ‘disappearance’ from the night sky is truly awesome.
To determine what sign a lunar eclipse occurs in, the position of the Moon as it travels through the Zodiac is the determining factor rather then the astrological sign that the day of the eclipse falls on. On June 4th, the Moon will rest in Sagittarius and so the lunar eclipse is in the Sign of the Archer.
Classical astrologers have noted that lunar eclipses affect the emotions and interpersonal relationships when they occur in one of the Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius). This impact can be profound indeed. While the cosmic energies released by a solar eclipse can sometimes take weeks to fully become apparent, Luna’s passage into shadow has an almost immediate impact.
We can expect that the social unrest of recent days will heighten during the period between the just concluded solar eclipse and June 4th. Much saber rattling between old enemies (and some new ones) will add to the tension. Economic issues and shortages of essential goods and services could also become apparent during this ‘shadow crossing’. Of particular concern would be North and South America, as well as Japan, China, Australia and the Pacific Rim. These areas will have a view of this event and, as such, are under the influence of the eclipse. It will be in these areas that the greatest activity will occur.
With the Neptune retrograde on at exactly the same day, there is a strong likelihood of some kind of ocean-born event occurring in those areas. It would not be surprising if some kind of seismic or volcanic activity made the headlines within that week. A crisis involving oil and/or natural gas also is not out of the question. It was during a Neptune retrograde that the world learned of the Deepwater Horizon accident.
My recent articles on the Venus transit on June 5th, discusses the importance and potential of that singular celestial event. When combined with the lunar eclipse, the emotional energies that will be magnified could change personal and political relationships in a manner that is hard to imagine. As a practicing astrologer and long time metaphysical and psychic researcher and advisor, analyzing the confluence of all of these events has become very important.
To understand the dynamics that are weighing on the present is to have a sense of preparation for the future. For, much like the Moon, we too will emerge from a shadow time to face the destiny that is to be.

Solar Eclipse Forewarns Change
Throughout time humans have marveled and stood in awe of both solar and lunar eclipses. Those brief moments when the beacons of our heavens are cast into shadow have been the stuff of myth and mystery. While solar eclipses have featured prominently in prophecies and events world-wide, the spiritual impact of a lunar eclipse can be both more immediate and profound than an eclipse of the sun.
Perhaps it is not so surprising given that it is the shadow of the Earth itself which blocks the illumination of the sun from reaching the Queen of the Night skies. As we, the inhabitants of this frail blue orb, find ourselves between the energies of Old Sol and Luna’s irresistible pull, the emotional, psychical and spiritual effects are magnified tenfold.
The effects of lunar eclipses reach us on both psychical and physiological levels. Just as the pull of the moon affects the tides, can influence the weather and have other geological impacts, the passing of the Earth between Sun and Moon magnifies lunar energies on bodies, minds and hearts. The Moon is often called the celestial body of reaction as our emotions, instinctual habits, intuition, and our subconscious mind all function in response to events and feelings that come to us from the outside world.
Eclipses should be viewed not only as a singular astrological event but in context with other actions (and reactions) that are occurring in the cosmos. To begin with, one should look at what sign the lunar eclipse occurs in. In traditional Western astrology, each sign carries an elemental feature of earth, air, fire or water. Additionally, each one of these elemental groups can be divided as being either Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable.
Many classic astrologers also take the additional step of looking to see which third of a given sign, called a decanate, the eclipse falls in. When thevarious filters are applied to an eclipse, one can get a true sense of the effects that may arise during the celestial shadow dance. The very cyclical essence of the moon moves the oceans of the human soul much like the tides of the oceans on Earth. The lunar eclipse places Earth between the external dynamics of the Sun and internal power of the Moon thus reflecting those deepest feelings, both positive and negative, outward with profound results.
For example, let us take a lunar eclipse that occurs in one of the Fire signs, in the second third (decanate) of the sign, and is mutable in nature. Eclipses in Fire signs often portend periods of conflict and discontent as feelings that have been held within are now released and emotions usually held in check rush in a spiritual flood to the forefront of our consciousness. Natural resources of all kinds including minerals, precious metals, and agricultural products are also impacted. Shortages or other supply issues can also occur during this time. Matters involving essential transportation may also be involved.
With the location and astrological nature of the eclipse established, the next step is to see what other planetary aspects are occurring during that time which would contribute their energies to that of the eclipse itself. Major aspects such as squares, trines, conjunctions, and oppositions certainly bring a significant increase of energy to the mix. Other unique events, such as a rare transit will also magnify the effects of this lunar event.
The Moon’s influence on our spiritual and emotional natures, as well as, those instinctive, internal rhythms that move us all are truly part of the cosmic soul of which we all are a part. There is much to discover in the stars and, as most professional psychics and astrologers are aware, discovery and learning to read the portents can provide a new sense of clarity in an ever more complex world.

With the Uranus Pluto square as a backdrop, the ruling planet of the Twins, Mercury-the Messenger, becomes very busy on May 21-22 as it squares Chiron, goes inconjunct (quincunx) with Pluto and sextiles Uranus. The importance of the aspects for Gemini natives cannot be overstated. The square with Chiron (the Wounded Healer) portends increased difficulty and misunderstanding with communications particularly in social settings. The hurtful impact of these miscues also can increase self-doubt as to the ability to set things right creating a negative emotional loop.
The Messenger’s quincunx encounter with the Dark Lord, Pluto, further complicates things for natives of this sign as decision making loses objectivity (again because of communication related hostility) and results in even more second-guessing about the correct path to follow. Fortunately, the sextile with Uranus mitigates the harshness and provides support for non-traditional types of communication such as intuition and psychical images. By varying your routine during this intense time, Gemini children can lessen the potential for disaster even if it can’t be totally avoided.
The first part of the Gemini’s natal month continues its active streak with a Lunar Eclipse on May 24th. This particular eclipse occurs in Gemini’s opposite sign, Sagittarius. The chances for arguments, misunderstandings and feelings of discontent for Gemini types is magnified-especially in light of the other astrological motions immediately preceding this eclipse event.
The full moon of Gemini makes its appearance on May 25th. Known as the Milk, Corn or Planting moon, Luna’s light provides a reminder that this is a time to make certain that all is ready for the full growing season of Summer Solstice. To one born in Gemini, this full moon serves as a reminder that even with the chaos of the events of the previous week, there is a promise of a future and the opportunity to make sense out of what appears to be little more that an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
The Messenger continues his impact on the sign he rules (and those born under it) by entering into a conjunction with Venus on May 24 and with Jupiter three days later on the 27th. The desire to travel will be strong and Gemini natives may find it hard to concentrate preferring to focus on pleasurable matters over business affairs.
One of the most significant astrological events of the year occurs during the month of Gemini. The Sea King, goes into its Neptune retrograde on June 7th. During a Neptune retrograde, there is a heightened sensitivity to things that go wrong and logic is often replaced with dreams and delusions. These feelings often collide with the stark reality of the real world, i.e., “pie in the sky” meets pie in the face. Having this event occur in a particular astrological month means that those born during that time will feel the Sea King’s impact even more profoundly that the rest of us.
At the same time as the start of the Neptune retrograde, Mercury goes opposite Pluto while Mars, the God of War squares Neptune, both on June 7th. Natives of Gemini will notice a major increase of stress and confusion combined with an almost obsessive need to find out “the truth”. The real danger is to exaggerate the nature of things and create more issues on the emotional front than you may already be facing.
The Messenger’s square with Uranus on June 8th provides flashes of insight although trying to share these revelations with others becomes difficult as it seems that the ability to focus your thoughts is clouded and confused. Keep in mind that some of what you Gemini types pick up could really shake up your status quo. Better to let the knowledge simmer for a while until the lines of communication clear up.
Gemini ends with Mars squaring both Pluto (June 15th) and Chiron (June 19th). Additionally, Chiron retrograde begins on June 16th. This is an intense and emotional combination that could impact Gemini people in particular. Desires intensify leading to intentional conflicts. At the same time old wounds (real or perceived) flare up adding more fuel to the spiritual fires.
The month of Gemini will leave a profound psychical mark on those who call the Twins their birth sign. While the movement of the cosmos is beyond our control, having knowledge of the energies that will be affected by this astral dance can serve to prepare and to understand the destiny ahead.
