The drama that is unfolding in Egypt is both compelling and confounding as many of us ask: “Why didn’t anyone see this coming?” Astrology has some very clear explanations as to what is going on with the chaos in Egypt.

There are some who did see the “handwriting on the wall” or, better said, the message in the stars. Astrologers from various schools of knowledge, including many that can be found here at PsychicCosmos.com, have been able to forecast these events by comparing the natal charts of Washington D.C. and Cairo. This comparison, known as a synastry, reveals a great deal about why these events seemed to take us by surprise and why we here in the U.S. appear to be stumbling on how to view what is occurring.

When the natal charts of both cities are compared, the first item that jumps out is prominent role of Pluto. As has been discussed in other articles (which can be found on the Psychic Cosmos site) the Plutonian Effect is particularly strong this year. Two key relationships are important to watch. The first is that Cairo’s natal Sun is in opposition to Washington’s Pluto. This aspect explains the defensiveness that we are seeing in Egyptian President Mubarak’s reaction to the U.S. suggestion that the time for change is now.

The tension caused by the planet of transformation (Pluto) residing in Capricorn to governments across the globe is only heightened by this aspect. The key issues of who (or what) has power and how change will come about are accented here. While both Cairo and Washington seem to fear the onset of change, this planetary aspect cautions that both parties have to take care not to make this “fear” become a self-realized prophecy. The status quo will “transform” and all we can hope to do is to get out of our own way.

A second Plutonian aspect has even more long term impacts on the relationship between Cairo and Washington D.C. The Egyptian Capital’s Pluto is in opposition to the U.S. capital’s Pluto. This aspect can almost be viewed as an amplification of the Plutonian Effect-think Pluto times two! The revolutions in North Africa and in Egypt in particular serve as a mirror to our own issues here in the United States. Ultimately, how the situation in Cairo resolves will have a strong effect on transformation in Washington as well.

The Sign of the Messenger highlights the critical nature of communications at this time. Mercury in Cairo’s chart conjoins the Ascendant in the natal chart of Washington D.C. This relationship emphasizes communication and negotiation. With the focus on “I”, it is understandable why Mubarak seems more focused on himself rather than his country.

This aspect, ironically, works against Washington having real influence in the situation at hand; the U.S. Government can, however, use this emphasis on communication and negotiation to make it’s position clear to the world and, perhaps, facilitate talks which can reduce tensions in Egypt.

Perhaps the most daunting aspect, however, is the Cairo Mars being squared to the Washington D.C. Sun. This is an extremely dicey relationship as it is marked by conflict and disagreements (although there is a level of attraction as well). The tendency to act rashly or impulsively rather than with thought is something that must be considered. Even as the change in Cairo comes about, care must be taken in building new lines of communication and not rush to judgments without considering the consequences.

With scarcely a month and a half gone in 2011, the upheavals and events that are unfolding world-wide are keeping psychics, such as those found on PsychicCosmos.com and non-psychics alike looking for portents of the destiny to come.

In a stark reminder of the confluence of planets which is impacting both Cairo and Washington, Mubarak’s resignation come 32 years to the day after the fall of the Shah of Iran and his government.
