Once again the pages of the calendar dwindle down to a precious few and, as the seasons turn, so, too will the last gasps of 2011 give way to the beginning of 2012. Much has been made of this coming year and what it may bring to this frail blue orb which we humans call home. Does the conclusion of the Mayan Long Count calendar mark an earth-changing event? Will the unrest that is sweeping the globe spread and cause havoc both here and abroad? Can financial and political turmoil find some kind of resolution? And how does all the planetary drama impact the personal lives of we who dwell upon it?
This is why those of us who have chosen (or been chosen by) the esoteric path take this time to examine the portents and utilize our skills to provide counsel and guidance to all who seek it. To begin with, 2012’s events are set against a dynamic astrological backdrop. Pluto still resides in Capricorn and the upheavals and collapse of existing and long standing governments will continue. The Dark Lord’s path of transformation through destruction will be enhanced by Uranus’ movement in the Sign of Aries the Ram. This had previously occurred in 1928 and continued for six years. The social and economic convulsions that rocked the world during that time provide us with a model of what can and may well develop during this latest journey.
The Sea King returns to home port in the Sign of Pisces on February 3rd. The impact on the oceans and the weather will be enhanced; strong, unexpected storms during the year, a more active hurricane season and other meteorological anomalies will make many wonder if the Mayan were right and the Long Count is bringing the conclusion. Dreams and nightmares will compete for attention and many of what we had come to believe as “truths” will be shown to be myths and illusions.
It is with this backdrop in mind that I now look at the year ahead. As the new year dawns, The Messenger and The Warlord square off, literally, on New Year’s Eve. The polarization of our society will continue unabated and the chance of jumping to a hasty, ill advised course of action/decision could have immediate repercussions world wide.
The Mercury The Messenger is busy during the first quarter of the year but does not go retrograde again until March 12th. Activity will begin to pick up on all fronts at the beginning of February. As I mentioned above, the Neptune, The Sea King returns home on February 3rd. A scant four days later Saturn begins a five month march in reverse. Saturn, The Ringed One has long been known to astrologers as the Great Limiter or Leveler, setting out boundaries, rules and limitations with which we must learn to work in order to progress.

Unfinished business will need to be completed first; the financial crisis (which has continued nonstop) is going to continue to frustrate both current and would-be leaders.
