This week marks the Autumn Equinox and a change of seasons. For many, the start of fall on September 23rd is viewed as a time of harvest and, hopefully, a change in the seemingly ongoing drama that marks the daily news on the political, national, financial and world fronts. Whether it is unrest in North Africa, our own economic situation, or the seemingly unending barrage of natural disasters and challenges, the desire to put it all behind us as the seasons change is almost overwhelming.
Yes, this is the time of the harvest, both in the karmic sense as well as, the traditional meaning. The stars, too, seem to reflect this harvesting of what we have sown. These are truly changing times as this season clearly marks.
Just three days after the Equinox, a powerful stellium promises to bring some dramatic seasonal shifts to this planet and its inhabitants. A stellium is an astrological term to describe a multiple conjunction of at least four planets in one sign or house. Astrologers differ on whether it is the sign or house which should dictate whether a stellium is present. My own particular belief is that it is the sign which controls since a sign can span two houses.
What will occur from September 26th through the 29th is the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Saturn will all be residing in Libra and spanning the 12th and the 1st houses. Addtionally, there is another Super Moon, a new moon this time, on September 27th. As before, the Earth, Moon and Sun will all be in alignment and the Moon will be at its closest to Earth.
The effect of the Super Moon earlier this year is still be felt in a variety of ways around the globe. With that in mind, one must certainly pay attention to the upcoming lunar event that will occur in just a couple of weeks. Many writers have noted that Super Moons do seem to have an impact on earthquakes. Given the increased seismic activity in the last few days, it would seem that this may be a prelude to a significantly more extreme event.
Stelliums act like a cosmic battery, overcharging the impact of the planets involved as well as, the signs and the houses. Specifically, the energies involved become obsessive. Here, the Lunar impact on emotions magnified by Venus collides and confounds with Mercury the Messenger on communications of all types. Much as the Sun can magnify energy and heat when shown through a magnifying glass, so too does the proximity of Old Sol to these other planets add to their intertwined energies.
Of particular concern is that this astrological configuration overlaps the 12th and the 1st houses. The 12th house is concerned with large public institutions (think governmental bodies) and hidden matters or agendas. What we see may not be what we are going to get, especially in the financial realm. This is traditionally the house of self-undoing, making those decisions or taking actions which ultimately will work against the desired outcome.
Given the toxic environment on political fronts, both here and abroad, expect some abrupt over-reactions that could lead to more unrest or worse. A financial crisis could come shooting in from left field that could leave both leaders and the public scrambling. Combined with an Equinox makes it especially worth noting.
Libra, of course, is represented by the scales and symbolizes the karmic balance that is constantly in flux. The stellium’s effect is going to through this balancing act which is severely out of whack. We may well get that “Aha!!” moment, but at a high price and, possibly, too late to avoid the consequences. This does not mean that everything ends, but, rather, that the Humpty Dumpty has gone to omelet land and that we are left picking up the pieces.
It must also be remembered that this is all occurring as Pluto transits Capricorn. As I have written previously, Pluto’s presence in this transit denotes a time of transformation and ending those systems (and beliefs) whose time has past. Structures (man-made, institutional, financial and political) that do not support growth will crumble to be replaced by the new forms.
This background of astrological activity is a major reason why the coming Equinox, the Super Moon, and the stellium could well mark a true change of seasons on many levels and a karmic harvest of unique and unexpected proportions.

In the hours before midnight, bright Jupiter rises before the Moon in the Western sky. This is a time to have fun, appreciate beauty, and be of service to others. We slowly roll into a change of the seasons on the September 23 equinox. This is time to reap what you have sown. Wisdom advises a slower pace, and more quiet reflection.
Aries Expect periods of intense activity followed by moments of major romantic distraction. Be very honest about your intentions. This is a great time to do something special for someone you admire. The more outgoing you are, and willing to take a risk, the greater the payoff in terms of satisfaction and personal growth.
Taurus You may sense that things are finally beginning to settle down. Even if there are still some unanswered questions, or unfinished business, you are well on the way to establishing yourself in a much happier and more stable situation. 3. The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11.
4. The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.
Now this is where things get totally eerie:
The most recognized symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book: “For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace.”
That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran.
Now how do you feel? I’d say, that is quite a few ‘coincidences’ – wouldn’t you? Of course, if you live in one of these types of desert environments with nothing to do all day………just saying……..voices from beyond, that is for sure! I found this definitely note worthy with a touch of the paranormal thrown in.

9/11 Belmont First Three Winners 9-1-1
On Sunday, a very eerie twist of events happened at Belmont Park, NY. This is the same track where Secretarit clinched the Triple Crown in 1973. This was one of the most spectacular sports events in horse racing history.
At this same track on Sunday, 9/11/11, the first race had very odd winning numbers for races 1, 2 and 3. Winning horses carrying these strange numbers were in order: race 1, horse #9 won, race 2, horse #1 won, and the third race, won by horse #1. 9-1-1. Doesn’t it make you wonder? Especially, since it was in Elmont, New York on this day? Maybe it is our spirit guides giving us a message that there is more to come. Maybe it is just a paranormal activity. Maybe it is both.
This happened just after the ceremony for 9/11 in New York where highly charged emotions were everywhere in that state. Plus the fact that it was on everyone’s mind; both the fear of another attack and also remembering those that lost their lives on that horrible day. One might call it A New York State of Mind.
Astrology charts also had some interesting things to say. As Lou wrote, “This is not an easy task when heart and mind compete for dominance as will be the nature of things in this near future” in his article a few days ago on 9/11.
Spencer’s comment was well put in an email to me. Here is what she had to say:
“What I get from this is that all of New York had 9 1 1 strongly on their minds and in their emotions. That attracted occurrences of 9 1 1. I’ll bet there are more instances of “coincidents” that didn’t catch the attention of the press. We have strong creative and manifesting abilities that begin with thoughts and are fueled by emotions which create a vibration that goes out from us. It isn’t so much what we think as the vibe that emanates from within us.”
I agree with Spencer, in that the emotional state of New Yorkers that day, 9/11, was definitely on the minds and in the hearts of all of us, and, in particular, New Yorkers. While some might pass the Belmont winners off as mere coincidence, what are the odds of that happening? I stand firm on the power of the mind and especially when a group is involved with similar thoughts. In this case, fear is a huge emotional state and a very powerful one at that. I tend to agree with Spencer, spirit guides and powerful messages from beyond.
This is one of those ‘coincidences’ that makes you wonder who’s really in charge.

With the technological and scientific advances of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, astrologers and astronomers alike are taking a fresh look at other celestial bodies that exist in our solar system and the potential impact that these objects have both in terms of science and their effect on human affairs. A number of modern astrologers have begun to integrate these asteroids, Centaurs,Trans-Neptunian Objects or planetoids into their charts and interpretations.
Centaurs are a class of minor planets that also have been noted to have characteristics of both asteroids and comets. Named after the mythological creatures known as Centaurs (which were a hybrid of man and horse), their orbits transit the paths of larger planets. Ironically and symbolically, one of the most prominent is Chiron. First discovered in November 1977, Chiron, whose orbital path carries it between Saturn and Uranus, may serve as a kind of cosmic bridge between time and space.
Chiron, in mythology, was a centaur who was known as the ‘wounded healer” who heals others but cannot heal himself. Ultimately, he sacrificed his immortality to give mankind the gift of fire by exchanging himself for Prometheus. Astrologically, Chiron refers to a wounding of trust leaving a wound that will never truly heal. In a natal chart, it can represent the “deepest wound”-representing an insecurity and guilt leading to over compensation of actions in an attempt to “heal”.
Though a newcomer to astrological interpretation, Chiron’s impact may be stronger than we could imagine. Given the approaching tenth anniversary of 9-11, I feel it is important to see what Chiron’s influence may bring.
It goes without saying that 9-11 represents the “deepest wound” that this country has suffered in its history. Even ten years after, the pain and fear of that day is still fresh in the common psyche of the nation which may never totally recede. To say that those events have left us all feeling insecure and trying to overcompensate for what we have lost would be an understatement. More than buildings fell that day as did trust and innocence collapsed as well.
Clearly, Chiron must be looked to see what energies it will bring to 9-11-11. To begin with, Chiron currently resides in Pisces. What this means is that we must work hard to remove the guilt we feel from the events of that day. More to the point, we should not be looking the world over to find others to “save” until we have fixed ourselves first.
Of particular significance is the fact that Chiron is in opposition to the Mercury the Messenger. With the residual effects of the recent Mercury Retrograde still creating difficulties, this placement points to additional communication snafus and misunderstandings. The proverbial “shooting oneself in the foot” certainly is likely when presenting ideas.
What this means to me is that 9-11-11 could mark a period of more misunderstanding on the world stage as to our intentions both political and financial. The shadow of the events of ten years ago may act to cause us to overact to false or misleading actions externally; playing the victim could well turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. While the wound of that day will never fully heal, Chiron does provide support for the sharing of the lessons of healing on all levels with others which, ultimately, can illuminate a path to the future. The stars give their portents; how we choose to heed them is up to each one of us.

As then tenth anniversary of 9-11 approaches, I find myself pondering exactly what doors may be opened on that date, the impact that this will bring-both nationally and on the world stage, and what the outcome might be. With announcements that new “credible” threats exist, the growing instability through much of North Africa and the Middle East, and a growing divide at home, this date may be a harbinger for many dramatic events, both in the short and long term.
It seems both fitting and proper to turn to the Runic Oracle to seek counsel on this matter. Although the Oracle is most often used for personal advice, the scope is only limited by the question put to it. My new book, The RuneChest, discusses the Oracle’s history and how to interpret its advice.
The first step in any casting is to pose a question: In this case, the question I have set before the Oracle is: What do we need to know about 9-11-11? I will use the Three Rune Spread. Read right to left, the first rune deals with the here now (think the current state of the matter), the second rune addresses the challenge which must be faced in the matter, and the third rune speaks to the future course of the matter.
Let us begin:
First Rune Hagalaz – This rune symbolizes archetypal and primal energy that disrupts the existing order and causes abrupt change. The term “radical discontinuity” had been used to describe its effect. Hagalaz reflects that energy that seems to be swirling around us, toppling the old and disrupting the existing order. The widening political and philosophical divide in the country is certainly reflected here. Much of what we have taken for granted is being shaken-particularly concerning our place in the world and our financial security. The stage is being set for a karmic wake-up which could strip away the fabric of the world as we know it.
Second Rune Algiz Reversed -This rune in the reversed position speaks to the challenge that we are facing as growth and progress is going to be stymied. How we meet this challenge could well dictate the future of prosperity in this country. This rune cautions that we are vulnerable to a strong negative force which will shake our existing plans. Since the force itself cannot be stopped, how we deal with obstructions and are willing to wait to move ahead when the way is clear.
Third Rune Jera – This rune, the rune of the future path shows that we will reap the “fruits” of our efforts in the past. It also is a gentle reminder of the cycle of birth-death-rebirth. The path ahead again mirrors that which I have written about in other articles, namely that the old and outmoded orders have come to the end of their course and that which is to be harvested (in the literal sense) will be a transformation rather than a continuation.
Taken as a whole, the Oracle counsels that this anniversary will strip away much of the façade that we have been dealing with, particularly in the areas of financial and national security. The reality that we will see will be marked with a lot of negative energy in the near term, yet if we can be patient (not the strongest trait in our national make-up), we will be able to move ahead when the storm clears. Even at that, however, the transformation of these outmoded systems, organization, and even beliefs, will still be dramatic and, like the phoenix, we will be called on to rise from the ashes of the past.
